Carling Black Label was first brewed in 1927 by Carling Brewery who later merged with Canadian Breweries Limited and became the largest brewing company worldwide. Black Label was only introduced to the African market in the 60s where it quickly became one of the most popular beers due to the marketing campaigns representing strong and hard-working men (‘heroes’) deserving beers after long days at work. Due to its popularity Carling USA licensed South African Breweries to produce it locally.
