Gusano Rojo is mezcal (similar to tequila) that originated from Oaxaca Mexico and gained popularity in the later part of the 20th century. It has a distinctive smokey flavour from roasting the agave hearts in underground pits. Gusano Rojo means ‘red worm’ and is named after their practice of adding a worm (larva or moth caterpillar) to some bottles as a marketing tool.
